Hallam Environmental Consultants' Director, Dr Frank Spode, has had an article published in Steam Railway magazine highlighting the problems encountered when invasive species are allowed to grow on tracksides. Lack of proper management has led to invasive species such as Japanese Knotweed becoming a major issue along railway lines. If left unchecked, Japanese Knotweed can overshadow native plants and it can also grow through foundations and other structures, causing damage to buildings.
