Landscape Context and Interpretation with the Example of the Ecology and Economics of Medieval Deer Parks

Aims of this lecture

This lecture describes major landscape components in their historic context. It introduces the basic habitat-types in their landscape and considers the types of ecology associated with them. In order to address these issues and ideas it takes the medieval deer park as an example. This is a major topic which can only be touched on here. It provides context for a very large and wide topic and introduces the case studies and areas which will be considered later in the course. It will be reinforced by the subsequent field visit.
