South Yorkshire Annual Wildlife Action Day
As part of our commitment to long-term environmental conservation and quality (aka sustainability) across the South Yorkshire and eastern Peak District region, we are proposing to hold an annual event to foster enthusiasm and sharing. The day will be held at Sheffield Hallam University and organised by the Tourism and Environmental Change Research Unit with support from the South Yorkshire Biodiversity Research Group. The day will be totally independent of individual stakeholder groups and will be open to all. They are essentially a forum for networking and for information exchange. Recent research has confirmed that many wildlife and heritage groups feel isolated and that they lack an easy but informative networking opportunity or effective co-ordination and collaboration across the region. This initiative by Sheffield Hallam University and partners will help provide a solution to this problem.
THE OBJECTIVES OF THE DAY:
- To raise awareness of wildlife and heritage recording and conservation activities
- To share knowledge of initiatives and projects
- To network and share concerns, problems and issues
- To foster an increased engagement with the natural and heritage environment and to promote its enjoyment
- To help focus regional agendas and to encourage good or best practice
- To share academic and professional research with the voluntary sector groups and individuals
- To help generate a wider awareness amongst the public and particularly amongst decision-makers of the importance of nature and of wildlife and heritage conservation
THE STRUCTURE OF THE DAY:
Each day will include a morning of focussed keynote presentations (2-3) by leading practitioners at a regional and national level. The afternoon will include an open forum and a focussed discussion on a particular theme or issue. There will be ample opportunity for poster displays and to disseminate handouts or other materials. The proceedings and other materials will be available via this website and published in the annual South Yorkshire Wildlife Review.
COMMITMENT, MEMBERSHIP AND ATTENDANCE:
To do this we need your support and commitment. SO IF WE ARE TO PROCEED WE NEED YOU TO REGISTER YOUR INTEREST AS AN INDIVIDUAL OR AS A GROUP. The days will be open to all but with a pre-booked ticket. We hope the events will be free but to achieve this may require some support or sponsorship. If you are willing or able to help then please do contact us. USE IT OR LOSE IT!!
