The Biggest Threat to Biodiversity in the 21st Century

 The End of Tradition?

Aspects of Commons and Cultural Severance in the Landscape

Conference held at Sheffield Hallam University

15th to 17th September 2010

This major event which brought together speakers and delegates from around 20 countries looked at the threats to biodiversity from cultural change and the abandonment of traditional management of commons and commons landscapes. The conference addressed the fundamental issues of whether we can conserve the biodiversity of wonderful and iconic landscapes and reconnect people to their natural environment. Examples were drawn from rural and urban commons, wooded landscapes, heaths, moors, coasts and wetlands. Conference organisers would like to thank key organisations such as Natural England, English Heritage, the IASC, IUFRO's Forest Research group for their support in making the conference a success.

A fuller account of the conference will be posted on the website shortly together with a copy of the abstracts and an opportunity to purchase a copy of Landscape Archaeology and Ecology Volume 8 (1) and (2), the pre-conference proceedings (over 40 papers in total).
