The Biodiversity and Landscape History Research Institute held a conference in Sheffield in September 2009, which highlighted the problems and issues surrounding invasive plants and animals, one of today's most important issues for conservation. The conference covered both the negative and positive aspects of invasive species, and was well-attended and received by people from all disciplines.

Speakers over the two days included: Prof. Chris Smout of St Andrews University, Dr Olaf Booy from Defra, James MacFarlane from Cornwall County Council, Dr Richard Shaw from CABI, and Dr Ian Rotherham from Sheffield Hallam University, plus others from various environmental and conservation organisations.
