UKEconet - the South Yorkshire Information Portal

Environmental research has been based at Sheffield Hallam University in partnership with the South Yorkshire Biodiversity Research Group since 1994. Much of this has been through the long-term research project and umbrella, the South Yorkshire Biodiversity Research Programme. We are now celebrating this unique project by placing a large proportion of our research output and presentations online, which will be free for all to use. We believe that this will be a unique and invaluable resource for other researchers, but especially for school, college and university teachers and students.

The UKEconet Network receives no funding so all this work will be done by volunteers and it will take time. However, we have already placed a considerable amount of research material online relating to Sheffield, the Peak District and South Yorkshire. There are numerous research papers and reports, both on the region and beyond, that reflect our ongoing and core research themes such as woodlands, heathlands and wetlands. There is also material on tourism and on environmental economics.

Some of our current projects are in conjuction with the Tourism and Environmental Change Research Unit at Sheffield Hallam University and the Biodiversity and Landscape History Research Institute, and at a European level with the European Cultural Forest Network and the International Union of Forest Research Organisations.

Honorary Director is Dr Ian D. Rotherham, Reader at Sheffield Hallam University, and Honorary Deputy Director is Dr Peter Glaves.
